A citizen-based project is seeking volunteers to measure precipitation at their home or business and report their daily totals each morning via the project’s web site or app. The project is called Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network — CoCoRaHS for short.

Its goal is to obtain an accurate picture of where and how much precipitation falls across the U.S, said the project’s eastern region coordinator, Matthew Sittel, assistant state climatologist at Kansas State University.
