Marysville Cemetery supervisor Dale Richardson posts flags at the entry to the burial site early on Memorial Day.

With a steady morning rain outdoors and a pandemic threatening the nation, Marysville’s American Legion SMN&R Post 163 was the site of an abbreviated Memorial Day service Monday with an audience of about 25 people and Legion members in uniform.

As people sat on chairs spread six feet apart, master of ceremonies Ron Grauer noted it was a different kind of Memorial Day because of the coronavirus pandemic, which had taken nearly 100,000 American lives by Monday.
