Community bankers in Marshall County have stepped up in the last several weeks and shouldered the responsibility of keeping our business communities intact. They’ve been the conduits and local administrators for the federal CARES Act and its Paycheck Protection Program, known as the PPP. The massive program, funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration, was intended to help small businesses. In Marshall County, bankers made certain it did and they worked quickly.

We’ve read about nightmare situations at big banks elsewhere, where mom-and-pop businesses were shoved aside as larger clients were given first dibs on the government loans. That didn’t happen here.
