Valley Heights and Troy football players took the field two-by-two Friday night to open the season with a dedication and a moment of silence for former VHHS assistant coach Lew Edward Whitson III.

Both teams formed a circle at midfield and took knees for a moment of silence. L3W was painted near the 50 yard line prior to the game. The spot was picked because it was in the center of the bleachers so everyone could see it, said Heights head football coach Tony Trimble.
