Break free

The end wasn’t what Axtell football coaches Eric Detweiler and Dale Buessing had scripted and 30 to 40 mph winds were not favorable, even from behind in the fourth quarter Saturday in Newton.

The wind altered game strategy. Turnovers played roles in the game that stopped drives. Three Osborne fumbles helped to keep the Eagles in the eight-man Division II state game. Two interceptions on Axtell’s last two drives axed plans for a tie or a comeback instead of a 34-26 loss.
