Georgia Pacific laid off 25 employees from its gypsum mine and manufacturing facility near Blue Rapids on Wednesday.
The Georgia-based company's spokeswoman Julie Davis said today that a slowdown in the construction industry led to the reductions from a former workforce of 125.
“Because of current market conditions we have had to lay off about 25 employees at our facility there,” Davis said.
Part of the layoffs occurred in the wall board section of the plant. Others were spread generally throughout the facility.
“This is no reflection on the employees,” Davis said. “When the market improves we’d certainly encourage those folks to come back.”
