Hanover celebrates 150 years

Hayden Bruna, left, and Brigham Bruna, both of Hanover, are released for the the start of a lawnmower race at the Hanover 150th celebration Saturday. The race took place on Washington Street from Church Street to Railroad Street. The 150th event, held on Friday and Saturday, featured a wide variety of activities such as a hot dog eating contest, a beer mile, inflatable play areas including slides and bounce houses, free meals for everyone, an ice cream social, a greased pig contest, a pedal tractor pull, backyard olympics and best beard contest. During the celebration, a photo of everyone in attendance was taken on the west side of city hall. The photo will be in the town’s 150th anniversary book that will be released in November. Betty Wollenberg and Greg Schmidt, both of Hanover, were the winners of the Hanover Sesquicentennial best dressed contest. Robert and Barb Lohse were chosen as the 150th celebration’s king and queen.
