Plans for a county jail have progressed to the point of seeking a bid from contractors. Surprisingly, there has been no county contact with the city to determine what setbacks and utility hookups might be needed for this major project, according to City Administrator Austin St. John, who attended Monday’s commissioners meeting.

St. John told commissioners that unlike the county, the school district was in regular contact with the city to determine what city building and zoning codes required during its major construction projects in recent years. St. John told the Advocate a day after the meeting that the city did receive a call from the county’s architect Monday a few hours after he raised the question.
